Part-Time Director
Position Overview
The Children’s School is seeking a Part-Time Director who will take ownership of ensuring a financially stable, thriving pre-school where experienced teachers provide high-quality, child-centered education in a safe, joyful, and welcoming community.
This role is ideal for a self-directed, decisive, and action-oriented leader who is passionate about early childhood education and community-based non-profits.
About The Children’s School
Founded in 1965, The Children’s School is a small, non-profit, play-based pre-school rooted in the belief that learning and growth begin with connection. We focus on building strong relationships—with ourselves, within our school, and with our broader community. Our program is child-centered and emphasizes social-emotional development.
We currently serve 25 students across three classrooms, with capacity to grow to 36 students. Our dedicated teaching staff includes six teachers, half of whom have been at the school for 5+ years.

Reports to: Board of Directors
Hours: 20 hours per week
Schedule: 3 days per week on-site (days are flexible and can be chosen by the Director); remaining hours are flexible
School day: 9am - 1pm
School Year: September - July (closed for the month of August)
Pay: $30–$35 per hour, depending on experience

Key Responsibilities
School Leadership & Operations
Oversee the daily operations of the pre-school to create a safe and welcoming environment
Ensure compliance with licensing, safety, and educational standards
Serve as the primary source for decision-making for the school
Enrollment & Financial Stability
Ensure strong, consistent enrollment through outreach, marketing, and engagement
Respond to inquiries, manage communications, and conduct school tours
Oversee the school’s budget in collaboration with the Board
Support long-term financial sustainability through fundraising and strategic planning
Staff Hiring, Support & Retention
Hire, supervise, and retain teachers and support staff
Provide clear feedback, encouragement, and opportunities for professional growth
Delegate responsibilities effectively
Community & Relationships
Build and nurture a strong sense of community
Act as the visible, approachable face of the school
Foster a culture that reflects the school’s mission and values
Desired Qualifications & Skills
Experience in early childhood education, non-profit leadership, school administration, or a related field
Ability to work independently, make decisions, and take initiative
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills (English)
Strong delegation and people-management skills
Comfort with marketing, enrollment management, and community engagement
Passion for children, play-based learning, and social-emotional development
