While attending WWU, I worked in a church nursery and YMCA preschool in Bellingham as an assistant teacher and sub for ages infant-5 years. After obtaining a Bachelor of Business Administration and a Personal Training Certification, I started a personal training business. In my last year of school I found my calling in early childhood education after taking a job as a teacher’s aide at a preschool down the street from my apartment. Since then, I have worked in assistant teacher and lead teacher positions, including a year at a school fully outdoors. I find working with kids to be rewarding in so many ways. I get to be with them as they build new skills and explore their sense of self as they move through the world. I loved school as a child and I enjoy creating a space where kids can find joy and security in a school setting like I did. I love to foster a sense of community in the classroom and celebrate the different ways we all contribute. I am passionate about social-emotional learning, anti-bias education, and ensuring that everyone who comes into my classroom feels safe and comfortable there. Growing in my education and teaching has been a great joy, and led to opening my afternoon program, Bigleaf, with the support of TCS. Early Childhood Education is a two-way street where I aim to support children’s learning, and get to learn from them daily as well. It is an exciting challenge for me to get to know each child as an individual and observe how they learn so I can nurture it. I hope to build their confidence in the classroom so they continue their educational lives with a positive view of their capabilities and education in general. I have extensive experience as an actor, director, and teacher and continued teaching in private and public schools after moving to Seattle. When I began working in preschools, I loved working with the little ones so much that I went back to school and earned my Washington State Teacher Certification in Early Childhood Education. I love working with young children because they are still full of wonder, have vivid and accessible imaginations, and freely express themselves without being self conscious. I’m now retired from teaching at TCS, but not quite ready to say goodbye to the little ones so now visit once per month with Explore A Story - an enhanced movement based story time experience. In my free time, I love treasure hunting at yard sales, estate sales, Goodwill, and flea markets. I began my career with students who were visually impaired throughout Georgia, Florida, Utah, and New York. I later taught students with learning and behavioral differences in Seattle Public Schools before transitioning into substitute teaching, where I continue my passion for education. I have been a substitute and Art Specialist at TCS since 2025. I am so happy to be a part of this vibrant community. I grew up in Savannah, Georgia on the banks of the Wilmington River. It was there that my love for all things art and nature began.
