Pre3, 3/4 yrs Old, and prek programs

We are a Montessori-based preschool that was established in 1965. We enroll children ages 2 to 6 years. Our program is distinctive in that we situate the child at the center of the educational experience. We offer one of the best teacher-to-student ratios in Seattle! Under the guidance of our talented teachers, we inspire meaningful exploration and creative learning for all children.

Typical Morning Schedule:

  • 9:00 am Class Starts, Drop-off
  • 10:00 am Story
  • 10:15 am Music
  • 10:30 am Snack
  • 11:00 am Outdoor Playground
  • 11:30 am Class Ends, Pick-up
  • 11:30 am  to 1:00 pm LunchBunch Program (optional with daily sign-in and separate billing).

*All times are approximate except start and end times.

The day begins with early childhood curriculum using a modified Montessori approach. The first hour focuses on using Montessori equipment and other developmentally appropriate activities. After story and music, the second hour includes further self-exploration, creative activities, and outdoor play. Our class sizes vary according to the age of the group. We plan classes small enough to enable teachers to give individual attention as needed, but also large enough so that children will need to help each other. The environment of our school is peaceful and friendly; we are not overly permissive. Our rules are developed around safety first and consideration of each member of the group.

We seek an atmosphere in which children are encouraged to be self-starting and develop self-discipline to the extent possible at this age. Above all, we want each child to feel very special.

Calendar

We follow the Seattle Public School’s calendar with a few exceptions - i.e, we do not take the teacher in-service days, but we do take off two weeks in December and a week in April for Spring Break.

TCS admits students of any race, color, national or ethnic origin to all the rights, privileges, programs, and activities generally accorded to students at the school. It does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, national and ethnic origin in administration of the educational policies, admissions policies, scholarship and other school-administered programs. In addition to the foregoing statement directed by the IRS, we would add that we warmly welcome ALL children to our school.

We want children to be comfortable and safe while at school. Our days are filled with painting and other messy projects. We do not want a child to worry if s/he gets paint on a new outfit, therefore, we suggest play clothes for everyone. For comfort and warmth on our playground, please wear closed-toe shoes and tights or pants underneath dresses. Conversely, holiday parties are celebrated at our preschool and we all wear our special clothes on those occasions.

We adore your program! As of now, no other preschool program has your program’s “feel” and certainly, none have your longevity.

LunchBunch Program

What is LunchBunch (LB)?

It’s an optional, daily program (Monday thru Friday from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm) where students return from the playground to have lunch with their classmates, as well as students and teachers from other classes. LB allows for a wider sense of community among students, it also provides educational enrichment opportunities – we offer yoga and art during this time, play a myriad of games, and give children extended time with toys and puzzles they do not see in their classrooms.

Who may attend LB?

All TCS are invited to attend LB. In the best interest of your child, we ask that you be confident that your child has adjusted and is ready to remain at school before extending his/her day.

How much does LB cost?

The cost of this extraordinary program is $13/day. We offer prepaid LB PunchCards with 10 punches ($120). We track attendance, deduct accordingly for the days your child attends, and notify you when it's time to reload your LB card.

When does LB start?

For 3/4 years olds, as well as our PreK students, this program starts on the Monday of the second week of school. For our youngest students (Pre3), typically November is a general start date; however, some are ready to begin earlier/later. We ask families of Pre3 students to check with their teachers first.

How do I enroll my child in LB?

There is no need to make a formal commitment to, or enrollment in, this program. To attend LB, just sign up in the morning on the class Sign-In Sheet when you bring your child to school.

So, how does LB work?

1. Every child should have a lunchbox with his/her name printed on the outside.

2. If your child has any food allergies, please notify us. Also, mark the lunchbox with the allergy information.

3. When you sign your child into school that day, check the LB Box in the Sign-in Sheet.

4. Please remind your teacher that your child is participating if s/he is not a regular attendee.

5. Please be prompt in picking your child up at 1:00 pm.  A late fee $15 applies after 1:05 pm.

6. Do not send any GLASS CONTAINERS TO SCHOOL.

Afternoon and PreK LB begins at 11:15 am by joining teachers and other children on the playground. If it is raining, children are welcome upstairs to our program space. We ask on rainy days that you do not arrive earlier than 11:20 am, as it is a busy time of transition, and our staff need an opportunity to prepare for PreK children to join us.

If you have questions about the LB Program, please contact us at info@tcsseattle.org.
